History of The Surrey Tree Warden Network

The Surrey Tree Warden Group, was on of the first to be set up by The Tree Council shortly after the great storm of 1987.

Until 2002, the Surrey Tree Wardens were coordinated and funded by Surrey County Council, however, with the financial pressures on local authorities at this time, Surrey was unable to continue funding the group.

Another first was achieved by the Surrey Tree Wardens in being the first group to stand on its own. With the help of the Tree Council, the group became a registered charity with a constitution.

It was not an easy transition, but thanks to the unstinting help of the Tree Council we are still here despite financial pressures and intend to remain to help safeguard Surrey’s rich tree heritage. We need more to join us in order to achieve this objective, especially as a committee member to help organise events and training or just as a local warden in the area in which you live.
