VETERAN TREE TRAINING DAY- Thursday 23rd  August 2018

Please email Kate if you would like to come: parkwarden@gatton-park.org.uk

It will again be led by David Alderman of the Ancient Tree Register, who is also working with the Woodland Trust on their Ancient Tree Hunt.

The location too will be the same: Gatton Park just outside Reigate, a Capability Brown parkland, and with trees even older than the landscape he created.

The day will open with a presentation from David about the work of the Ancient Tree Forum, the history of trees

in the landscape, and how to identify veteran and ancient trees. This will be followed with a walk into the grounds to see measuring and recording in action.

The training could finish then for those who can only do half a day. But if you

have time bring a packed lunch and the afternoon will be taken up with more exploration of Gatton’s wonderful trees - including a splendid Ancient Oak, spotted, measured and now on the Register, thanks to the training day last September.

Tea and coffee will be provided, but bring your own lunch, and wear sensible footwear for whatever weather August will throw at us! Some outdoor paths are steep. Booking is essential as numbers are limited.

The event is being organised jointly by Kate Thompson, the Park Warden at Gatton, and Liz Ramsay of the Surrey Tree Wardens. Please email Kate if you would like to come: parkwarden@gatton-park.org.uk
